Suva History Sails

The museum has partnered with the Schooner Suva to introduce new History Sails on the Suva.

Enjoy a gorgeous and relaxing sail on the Suva around Penn Cove, and get some local history along with the ride.


June 9th at 3:30 PM - Local historian Patrick Hussey will give you background on the Wharfs of Coupeville, past and present.

June 29 at 1PM - Local maritime historian Bill Young will speak on the Mosquito Fleet with emphasis on Calista Lovejoy and the steam ship Calista.

July 14 at 1PM - Join local historian Dick Eigenraam to learn about the small boat expeditions led by Ship’s Master Joseph Whidbey that travelled from port Susan to Penn Cove and points North.

August 3 at 1PM - Join Rick Castellano, the former executive director of Island County Museum, to see the sites of the former native villages of Penn Cove and learn about the lives of the Lower Skagit People who lived here before 1855.

August 18 at 1PM - Join historian and history reenactor Michael “Tug” Buse, who will explore the mystery of who were the first Americans to sail into Puget Sound and Penn Cove. It might not be who you think!

August 25 at 1PM - Join Local Historian and Museum/Lighthouse docent Patrick Hussey for a dive into the geographic features of Penn Cove, 1905 Wharf history, the Tokitae story, and the mussel farm history.
